Twelve months ago Fairfield Primary School started investigating solutions to the extreme heat that our gym was experiencing during the summer months. The building was designed under the Building Evolutionary Revolution in 2010 and provides poor insulation against the heat. After working with various experts, we established that refrigerated and evaporative cooling were not viable options due to the design of the building. Therefore we proceeded to work with Cocoon who used an infrared membrane coating on the roof and we also installed four Arius fans. This has been a big success – this year we have had a hot February and have been able to conduct PE lessons in the gym (which we couldn’t have previously). We have had equally positive feedback from our gym hirers.
